Database Assistive Technology: Other

Font Size

These databases allow the student to increase the font size of the text.

Additional Assistive Technology

The following databases have AT tools that are useful for students who have visual impairments, use an e-reader for educational purposes, or need additional assistance during the research process.

SmartText Searching

How SmartText Searching Works:

1. SmartText Search takes the chunk of text entered into the search box and first runs it through a sophisticated summarizer, pulling out all the main words/phrases in the chunk of text.

2. SmartText Search takes all of those main words/phrases and queries them against the database, getting back a sorted list of the words/phrase that are most relevant as compared to that database's content.

3. Based on this result, a relevancy weight gets assigned to each word/phrase.

4. A search string is then built OR'ing the terms and their weights together, and a search is conducted against the database.

5. A relevant Result List is returned. (EBSCOhost, 2011)

These databases allow students to take notes on the article they are reading. They even allow students to save their notes to their EBSCOhost account.
