The Assignment

There are many reasons that we still read the play "Romeo and Juliet." Romantic love and the conflicts of duty to ones family or culture are recurrent themes throughout history. There are plenty of connections that can be made to the play "Romeo and Juliet" and some have really happened! See the ones in the box below:

You are going to compare and contrast the characters in "Romeo and Juliet" to either:

  • A Real-life Romeo & Juliet couple  OR
  • An Actual Feuding Family

In order to complete this research, you will use research databases and the internet to find reputable sources and take notes. You will take notes in the Note-Taking sheet (see left).

After finishing the play, you will use this worksheet to compare and contrast Romeo and Juliet the play with their real-life equivalents. You will then synthesis your findings into a well-written essay.

Your thesis statement will prove how Romeo and Juliet are similar and/or different to real-life couples OR how the Capulets and the Montagues are similar and/or different to an actual feuding family.

As part of this process, you will also produce a Works Cited using MyBib to gather your citations.
