Parenthetical Citations

Please use a citation after all direct quotes and after paraphrased information. Use a signal phrase before direct quotes. 

Example: According to Simon Parker "Shakespeare continues to amaze us after centuries" (Parker).

Works with author and page numbers:
(Popoff 10).

Works with an author and no page numbers:
(Parker).

Works without an author or page number. Enter a shortened title in quotes:
("Seasonal").

MyBib.com is a free citation generator for MLA, APA, and Chicago style. Create a new Project & Add a Citation.  Choose website, book, journal, video, etc.  For database articles, click More then Write/Paste.  To copy or print your final list, click on Download Bibliography.  Click here for handout. Watch the video!

Topics

Freshman Research Topics: Pick one topic or narrow to a subtopic.

Health

  • Describe hygiene during the Renaissance period. 
  • What sicknesses and plagues were common during this time period?
  • What medicine did they use?

Note you can choose England or Italy to narrow down.  

Entertainment

  • What did people do for entertainment during the Renaissance
  • Research sports, music, dance, and/or games.

Note you can choose England or Italy to narrow down.  

Elizabethan Theatre or Globe Theatre

  • Describe theatre (or theater) during Shakespeare’s time.
  • Discuss the actors, staging, costumes, props, seating, and audience

Database Research

You will need to have two articles.  These articles can be from the same database.

 Gale Virtual Reference Library has lots of information on the Renaissance. You'll need the password montytech1 at home.
 

 ABC-CLIO is a Social Studies database.   Use montytech1 for login and password at home.

Brochure

You will use this Google Doc template to create a brochure of your topic. 

One partner will click on File and Make a Copy.  He or she will then share the brochure with the other partner.  Your brochure will cover one topic or subtopic from your research.  Be sure to find at least three pictures to put into your brochure. 

Pictures must be related to the subject.  

Information must contain a parenthetical citation at the end.  See instructions on the left.
