  • 4 typed, double spaced pages in length (not including the Work Cited page)
  • Use at least 3 reliable sources
  • An original assertion supported by the research 
  • At least three integrated quotations AND five paraphrased facts/concepts cited in text
  • Strong topic sentences & a polished final product is expected

Research Process

The Research Process 
Step 1: Select a topic.
Step 2: Narrow down your topic if need be.
Step 3: Find at least 3 reliable sources (peer reviewed articles/essays, books..etc. Not Wikipedia).
Step 4: Read and take notes about each source. Paraphrase the main argument, bullet useful facts, and copy quotations that are imperative. No, highlighting is not the same thing as taking notes. Be sure to get/make a full MLA 8 citations for each source while you are taking notes.  Use the Note-Taking Sheet if you wish (click File and Make a Copy).

MyBib.com provides free citations for MLA, APA, and Chicago style. Create a new Project & Add a Citation.  Choose website, book, journal, video, etc.  For database articles, click More then Write/Paste.  To copy or print your final product, click on Download Bibliography.  Click here for handout. Watch the video!
